Join us for a Q&A with SCAPE Co-Founder and Business Mentor, Gary Masner, to review the new reporting requirements under the Corporate Transparency Act.

Effective January 1, 2024, the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) mandates that millions of both newly established and existing businesses (if they are corporations, limited liability companies, or certain other entities) must submit beneficial ownership information (BOI) to the U.S. Department of Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

During the presentation Gary will share who are defined as reporting companies and beneficial owners, what and when companies must report, explain penalties for noncompliance and the confidentiality of your information. Questions will be answered following the presentation.

Let us help breakdown the complexities of the new requirements so you can start off 2024 on the right foot! Register below and we will send you Zoom information and overview white paper.

OEDIT Lunch & Learn

Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade is coming to Durango to share information about their Rural Jumpstart, Skill Advance Colorado and Advanced Industries Tax Credit (AITC). Meet representatives, Morgan Vankat, Rural Jump Start and Skill Advance Business Funding and Incentives Program Manager and Ali Karp, AITC Program Analyst. They will outline their offerings for rural startups over lunch. Join us to learn more about:

RURAL JUMP-START ZONE

The Rural Jump-Start program provides tax relief and grants to new businesses and their new hires located in certain economically distressed counties of rural Colorado. Companies participating in the Rural Jump-Start program must have a relationship with a local economic development organization or an institute of higher education, be new to Colorado, export goods or services outside their county and cannot compete with a similar existing business in an adjacent economically distressed county.

New businesses locating in Rural Jump-Start zones are eligible for up to $20,000 in grants; in Tier 1 Just Transition Communities, up to $40,000. The new business is also eligible for up to $2,500 for each net new hire in a Rural Jump-Start Zone, and up to $5,000 per net new hire in a Tier 1 Just Transition Community.

SKILL ADVANCE COLORADO

The Skill Advance Colorado program offers short-term, customized training grants for businesses in two foramts:

  • Colorado First Customized Job Training - Provides grants to new hires at Colorado companies. Based on self-reported information by grant recipients and compiled by the Colorado Community College System administration, in FY 2022-23, the Colorado First program made 11 grants for the training of 275 people.

  • Existing Industry Customized Job Training - Provides grants to companies to support training of existing employees. Based on self-reported information by grant recipients and compiled by the Colorado Community College System administration, in FY 2022-23, the Existing Industry program made 39 grants for the training of 1,957 people.

ADVANCED INDUSTRY INVESTMENT TAX CREDIT (AITC) PROGRAM

AITC encourages investments in Colorado advanced industry small businesses to stimulate the economy and create high-paying jobs by incentivizing investors with state income tax credits. When qualified investments are made into a Colorado advanced industry small business, investors can earn a Colorado state income tax credit of 25 or 35% of their full investment (rates for tax credits vary depending on the businesses’ location). There are seven advanced industries in Colorado: Advanced Manufacturing, Aerospace, Bioscience, Electronics, Energy/Natural Resources/Cleantech, Information Technology, and Infrastructure Engineering.

The program has $4,000,000 in credits to award on a first-come-first-served basis a given calendar year.

WSSW: Record the Perfect Pitch

Join us for a session during West Slope Startup Week!

You know your company and why you stand apart, but do you know how to present your company's unique value to investors in a recorded video pitch?

A video is a fantastic tool for startup founders to communicate their company value proposition. It allows you to use verbal, visual, and audio forms of communication that can make your message more engaging and memorable for your audience. Video presentations in pitch decks can increase investment chances by 50% and increase engagement and understanding by 80% compared to text alone.

SCAPE, the Southwest Colorado Accelerator Program for Entrepreneurs, has leaned into this new pitching format since the pandemic. It has helped over 20 local companies record their pitches and gain access to investment capital.

Come ready to learn the dos and don’ts of how to record your pitch. SCAPE’s professional videographer, Alex Wilson, and Program Director, Brittany Cupp, will share their production tips to help you with everything from selfie-style pitches to working with the pros.

This event is a collaborative effort with SCAPE Mentors, Nicholas Goodman and Ben Le Cun, drinks and snacks provided by SCAPE (directions below*).

SCAPE Mentor, Ben Le Cun, will get things started in July. Ben is a former Engineering Manager at Uber and is now helping startups & developers make better apps. In this session Ben will be talking about how startups can build mobile apps with no developers or agency, and deploy them to the App Stores. Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars into building a team or hiring an agency, FlutterFlow lets you build faster, more simply and for cheaper. We'll go over how you turn your idea into a mobile app and make it available to billions of people.
