Company Roundup: MTN FX
Founded by mechanized ski guides Matt Glick and Jim Philpott, MTN FX is built by the very people who use it—designed to bring clarity, efficiency, and real-time coordination to avalanche teams, ski patrol, and backcountry operators. In this Q&A, they share how life in the mountains shaped their entrepreneurial path, what they’ve learned from building for their own community, and why they believe better tools can fundamentally change how work gets done on the hill.

Q: What does your business do?
A: MTN FX is a operations platform built for mountain professional like guides, ski patrol, and avalanche teams. It streamlines the daily workflows that keep mountain operations safe and organized: GIS mapping, avalanche mitigation planning, route forms, blast reports, weather data, and team logistics, all in one place. Think of it as the command center for the mountain, replacing paper forms and scattered spreadsheets with a purpose-built digital tool for the people who manage risk in the backcountry.
Q: Tell us about your entrepreneurial journey.
A: We're both mechanized ski guides and snow professionals, and the kind of people who can't leave a broken process alone. MTN FX grew out of that curiosity and desire to build something better for the people doing the work. Because we are the end users as well, every improvement we make is one we feel firsthand saving time, reducing friction, and getting teams out on the hill faster. That's the entrepreneurial journey for us.
Q: What was the most powerful lesson you learned on this journey?

Q: Why did you apply for the SCAPE Program?
A: We applied with SCAPE because we need capital to scale and take MTN FX to the next level. Our goal is to have every ski resort and guided operation on the program, this initial funding round will help up start this journey.
Q: What companies inspire you the most (local, national, worldwide)?
A: The companies that inspire us at the moment believe that widely used doesn't mean best. Gaia GPS and OnX Maps are perfect examples in that they took navigation, historically a skill requiring years of experience and training, and made it accessible to everyone. Proving that there is always room for innovation.
Q: What do you love most about the Southwest Colorado?
A: We were born and raised here, and chose to come back to raise our families alongside our parents. SW Colorado has everything from stunning landscapes, incredible public lands, and a near-perfect climate. But, what keeps us here is the people and the community. There's nothing else like it
